Despite the many cross-disciplinary endeavours to define what ‘presence’ is, it proves a rather elusive concept, with different conceptualisations of the term found across different disciplines. In museum studies, presence is associated with the type of experience that a visitor can have in a museum setting, in an attempt to find the balance between interpretation/meaning and embodiment/immersion in the museum space. However, donation rates have never met the demand for transplantable organs. Biomedical researchers are exploring alternative sources from nonhuman animal donors such as pigs; improved biotechnological solutions such as total artificial hearts; and 3D printed organs developed from the recipient’s own cells. These These solutions are in various stages of development, and they may or may not prove viable in terms of cost, functionality, and/or compatibility with the recipient’s body. In this chapter, I ask not about the viability of these proposed solutions, but rather, about the acceptability of the various technologies to potential recipients. Simply put: were these organ transplant alternatives to become available, would patients agree to them? Analyzing answers from focus group interviews and surveys, I use the responses to show that individuals imagine these various technologies as familiar or foreign, self or other, clean or dirty, and so on. People envisage that using different different different materials will certainly affect their bodies but also their subjectivities. New biotechnologies are raising questions about altering subjectivity through body modification and the answers to these questions demonstrate ambiguity. Advocating (Inter)disciplinarity at the Interfaces of Animal Health, Human Health, and the Environment Subject The topic of the resource Medicine Description An account of the resource This chapter discusses the recent emergence of advocacy for 'One Health' (OH): the idea that greater interdisciplinarity across the domains of human and animal health research, clinical practice and policy is essential for addressing contemporary problems such as zoonotic disease, food safety, cancer and drug development. Over the past decade, the language of OH has been taken up by increasingly prominent actors in global health and biomedicine, including funders, international agencies and pharmaceutical companies; however, there has been a long history of veterinary led advocacy for similar ideas since the late 19th century. This longer history raises an immediate question: given that ideas of collaboration and convergence between human and veterinary medicine have been being advanced for such a long time, why has OH come to the fore at this particular point in time? This chapter analyses the emergence and growth of OH, following the key actors, events, disciplines, and agendas that have contributed to its increasing popularity, while tracing its origins in the histories of animal health, global development, and infectious disease. Using bibliometrics of key OH terms in academic journals, alongside qualitative analysis of academic, policy, and online documents, this chapter shows that while OH has been adopted by institutions across human and animal health, it is predominantly used by scientists publishing in veterinary science journals. This raises questions about the extent to which OH is interdisciplinary, to which actors and in which contexts: to what extent is it a 'top-down' or 'bottom-up; version of interdisciplinarity? The implications of these findings in the broader context of agenda-building across the life and environmental sciences of the early 21st century are then discussed. Two projects have recently entered production. The introduction of a CBDC by at least one major central bank in the coming years seems inevitable, and this will be a tipping point. CBDC will then enter the mainstream of the banking sector. This trend requires a broader assessment of CBDC projects than central banks do. This chapter discusses concerns regarding the introduction of CBDCs and their design criteria. Addressing these issues at an early stage allows us to mitigate them.The most obvious concern is regarding the public security of central bank money in an era of increasing cyber threats. Another real concern is regarding privacy. However, one particular angle of discussion regarding CBDCs does not receive enough attention – sustainability. Yet, when KNR first began broadcasting television in 1982, after several years of planning, Greenland already had 25 private, local TV associations around the country. These private TV associations played an important part supplying local content to KNR. Today the number of private TV associations has decreased with only a couple of stations left, and their archives are not considered part of KNR’s archive; instead, they are identified as private archives. Today they are dispersed both geographically and institutionally, often held in local museums if they have been kept at all, since these arrangements were up to the TV associations themselves. Even when they have been kept, the old tapes are at immediate risk of degrading irreparably unless they are digitized very soon. This chapter examines the media archives from TV-Aasiaat from the 1990s, surveying the content and condition of the non-digital tapes. Productions made by TV-Aasiaat and other local TV stations constitute an important part of the cultural heritage of modern Greenland, allowing a view of local everyday life told in Kalaallisut, whereas KNR’s national broadcasts in the 1980s and 1990s were just as often in Danish as in Kalaallisut. The productions of the local TV stations ought to be recognized as Greenlandic cultural heritage and digitized for preservation along with KNR’s own productions.
