<text>This volume explores what ‘Islam’ is taken to mean in different social, economic and cultural contexts. It considers how people engage and employ varying traditions, institutions, and media in shaping their sense of self and place. It also investigates how competing notions of ‘Islam’ intersect with questions of governance. The book complicates neat conventional divisions and invites to think across disciplines and in translocal contexts.</text>

<text>In October 1890, Eugene T. Kingsley’s life changed irrevocably when he was injured in a fall between two rail cars while working as a brakeman on the Northern Pacific Railway. Following the amputation of both his legs, Kingsley became radicalized and joined the Socialist Labor Party in San Francisco. His activism eventually brought him to Vancouver, B.C. where he founded the Socialist Party of Canada. A self-described “uncompromising enemy of class rule and class robbery,” Kingsley wrote prolifically on the exploitation of wage slaves by the capitalist class. Also known as a passionate orator, he went on to become one of the most prominent socialist intellectuals of his day. Class Warrior is a collection of Kingsley’s writing and speeches that underscores his tremendous impact on Canadian political discourse.</text>

<text>The contributions gathered in this open access book focus on modern methods for data science and classification and present a series of real-world applications. Numerous research topics are covered, ranging from statistical inference and modeling to clustering and dimension reduction, from functional data analysis to time series analysis, and network analysis. The applications reflect new analyses in a variety of fields, including medicine, marketing, genetics, engineering, and education. The book comprises selected and peer-reviewed papers presented at the 17th Conference of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS 2022), held in Porto, Portugal, July 19–23, 2022. The IFCS federates the classification societies and the IFCS biennial conference brings together researchers and stakeholders in the areas of Data Science, Classification, and Machine Learning. It provides a forum for presenting high-quality theoretical and applied works, and promoting and fostering interdisciplinary research and international cooperation. The intended audience is researchers and practitioners who seek the latest developments and applications in the field of data science and classification.</text>

<text>The use of minerals as ingredients in health care products is a classical and active pharmaceutical
subject. Clays and also zeolites and other silica-based mesoporous inorganic ingredients have been
traditionally used as pharmaceutical and cosmetic ingredients. These inorganic ingredients should
meet the quality and safety standards to be used as ingredients in health care products. Recently,
new and advanced applications of these materials have been proposed, including the design of
modified drug delivery systems and other advanced applications (such as wound healing formulations
and tissue engineering scaffolds).
This Special Issue highlights the most relevant and recent advances in clay-based formulations
and clay-based drug delivery systems. Natural, modified, and synthetic clays with prospects in
nanomedicine and pharmaceutics were considered.</text>

<text>This guidebook presents a framework for climate adaptation planning for coastal cities, large and small, focused on the central roles of citizens, public officials, and planners. The book is designed to help all stakeholders in coastal cities understand and develop effective adaptation measures in a sustainable way. Within a framework of eight key planning steps, guidance is provided for stakeholders in the adaptation process from initial assessments of climate impacts to final planning. The work sets out general principles and methods of adaptation to climate change for many types of coastal communities. Adaptation is seen throughout the work as a process that should take into account all coastal assets, including economic, environmental, social, cultural and historical assets, with due attention to disadvantaged communities. Among the adaptation elements covered in the book are: a review of the current climate situation; climate impacts and vulnerabilities; climate models and future scenarios; physical, economic, social and other characteristics of coastal cities and towns; the range of available adaptations, including management, infrastructure, and policy adaptations; evaluation of projects and programs; and working together to develop and finance adaptations. Numerous tables are presented to help organize information and guide planning, and examples of adaptation challenges and opportunities are provided from both developed and developing coastal cities and towns. The volume is copiously illustrated, with extensive up-to-date references to provide the reader with additional sources of information.</text>

<text>Climate change is perhaps the greatest threat to humanity today and plays out as a cruel engine of myriad forms of injustice, violence and destruction. The effects of climate change from human-made emissions of greenhouse gases are devastating and accelerating; yet are uncertain and uneven both in terms of geography and socio-economic impacts. Emerging from the dynamics of capitalism since the industrial revolution — as well as industrialisation under state-led socialism — the consequences of climate change are especially profound for the countryside and its inhabitants. The book interrogates the narratives and strategies that frame climate change and examines the institutionalised responses in agrarian settings, highlighting what exclusions and inclusions result. It explores how different people — in relation to class and other co-constituted axes of social difference such as gender, race, ethnicity, age and occupation — are affected by climate change, as well as the climate adaptation and mitigation responses being implemented in rural areas. The book in turn explores how climate change – and the responses to it - affect processes of social differentiation, trajectories of accumulation and in turn agrarian politics. Finally, the book examines what strategies are required to confront climate change, and the underlying political-economic dynamics that cause it, reflecting on what this means for agrarian struggles across the world. The 26 chapters in this volume explore how the relationship between capitalism and climate change plays out in the rural world and, in particular, the way agrarian struggles connect with the huge challenge of climate change. Through a huge variety of case studies alongside more conceptual chapters, the book makes the often-missing connection between climate change and critical agrarian studies. The book argues that making the connection between climate and agrarian justice is crucial. The chapters in this book were originally published in The Journal of Peasant Studies.</text>

<text>The health sector is known to be one of the major contributors towards the greenhouse gas emissions causing the climate crisis, the greatest health threat of the 21st century. This volume positions the health sector as a leader in the fight against climate change and explores the role of the health system in climate policy action. It delivers an overview of the linkages between climate change and the health sector, with chapters on the impact of climate change on health, its connection to pandemics, and its effects on food, nutrition and air quality, while examining gendered and other vulnerabilities. It delves into the different operational aspects of the health sector in India and details how each one can become climate-smart to reduce the health sector’s overall carbon footprint, by looking at sustainable procurement, green and resilient healthcare infrastructure, and the management of transportation, energy, water, waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and plastics in healthcare. Well supplemented with rigorous case studies, the book will be indispensable for students, teachers, and researchers of environmental studies, health sciences, and climate change. It will be useful for healthcare workers, public health officials, healthcare leaders, policy planners, and those interested in climate resilience and preparedness in the healthcare sector.</text>
